Story One: A Harmonious Winter Night
It’s a cold winter night, with lights illuminating the marketplace and people walking about from place to place, partaking in the festivities of the Lunar Snowfall.
Amid the busy crowd is Harmony Esmeray and Mystery, with something a lot more... mundane in mind than just buying presents.
"So you've never had a Lunar Snowfall to this scale before, have you, Harmony?" Mystery asked.
"Nope! Back in my Village, my dad would always be excited about the holiday but never explained what it was, but I didn't care! I liked the snow and the presents! Oh! And the pretty green and blue lights in the sky of course!" Harmony answered.
"Weird...well, I'm not sure about your dad but here in Crescentia, the Lunar Snowfall is meant to celebrate not only the wintertime arriving, but the moon illuminating even in the night sky. This is the only time of year where it does that you know?" Mystery explained.
"Huh! I had a feeling that was the case. I had other things in mind anyway!" Harmony smirked.
"That being?" Mystery asked.
"The traditions! Yeah, we had presents and stuff but what kinda traditions you got here Mystery!" Harmony beamed.
Mystery couldn't help but giggle at the light that exuded from Harmony's eyes.
"Well, not only are most shops in the marketplace having a Lunar sale since this time of year is associated with charity and goodwill, but because of the light from the moon, most nights we get a clear view of the Aurora Borealis, the green and blue lights you saw as a kid. It's meant to symbolize the light always being with us, even in the dark of the night" Mystery elaborated.
Harmony was awestruck by the night sky. This was the same Aurora Borealis she would see as a child from her little village, but with her world expanded, it felt just a bit grander.
She was enamored by the lights, unable to tear her eyes away from it, the beauty of the night enveloped her.
Mystery took note of this and watched over her, not even sparing a passing glance at the sky, but rather at the light that was standing right in front of her.
Captured in the grasp of the moment, Mystery forgot where she was as well until a tap on the shoulder yanked her back to reality. A girl named Annabelle had a question for her.
"H-hey uh... you're Mystery right? I'm a... big fan of your detective work! You think I could get a-an autograph?" Annabelle spits out.
"O-oh sure sure! Here you go!" Mystery murmered.
"Thanks a bunch, okay I gotta go! Last minute Lunar shopping am I right? Have fun with your partner!" Annabelle exclaimed as she ran off into the sea of people.
"W-wait! We're not-!" Before Mystery could finish her words, Annabelle was gone.
Mystery thought to herself for a moment, her hands were shaking not from the cold, but from the uncertainty of her feelings... What is it that she's feeling, for this girl? Could it be...something more?
She stopped herself from thinking and just decided that one day, someday, she'll unravel this tangled-up mess that is her feelings.
"Hey, Harmony, why don't I show you around town more, there's ice skating you know!" Mystery offered.
"Oooh, I've always wanted to try that! What are we waiting for!" Harmony cheered.
Without even thinking, Harmony grabbed onto Mystery's hand as she practically dragged her towards the ice skating rink. Mystery, noticing this, is taken aback.
While still not understanding why she's feeling this way, she knows one thing for sure.
Despite the amount of people, the night may as well be a harmony that only they share.
